POSNER, DAVID BEN NAPHTALI

POSNER, DAVID BEN NAPHTALI
POSNER, DAVID BEN NAPHTALI (mid–17th cent.), talmudist. David lived in Posen and then in Krotoschin. He was the author of Yalkut David (Dyhernfurth, 1691), a collection of Midrashim serving as a kind of supplement to the Yalkut Shimoni. The material, edited by his father, Naphtali Hirsch Shpitz, is arranged in the order of the weekly Torah portions. Fuenn holds that David Posner is to be identified with David Tevele Posner, author of the Sha'arei Ẓiyyon (Hamburg, 1615). -BIBLIOGRAPHY: Steinschneider, Cat Bod, 863; Fuenn, Keneset, 248; Braun, in: MGWJ, 40 (1896), 524f.
